Emory Healthcare Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Eligible employees may take up to 12 workweeks of unpaid, job-protected leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) in a rolling 12-month period for specified family and medical reasons.

Employee Health (Healthcare employees only)

Employee Health is your resource for everything from current health happenings to annual health assessments. The mission of our team is to promote a healthy and safe work environment free of communicable disease transmission. This is accomplished through the promotion of employee health and wellness through education/counseling, assessment of employees to identify potential for acquiring and transmitting an infectious disease, immunization of employees when appropriate and medical surveillance of employees identified with a risk of occupational hazards.

Services include:

  • Baseline health assessments and drug screens
  • Annual health assessments and tuberculosis surveillance to comply with state and federal laws
  • Immunizations for prevention of hepatitis B, chickenpox, measles/mumps/rubella, tetanus, diphtheria and influenza
  • Fitness-for-duty evaluations
  • Facilitator for testing of impaired employees
  • Consultant to Human Resources on FMLA when clarification is needed
  • Wellness promotion (health promotion and disease prevention) in partnership with the Emory University community
  • Health hazard assessment and surveillance of employee populations, workplaces and community groups
  • Collaboration with Safety to promote and protect employee health and safety
  • Compliance with laws, regulations and standards governing health and safety for employees and the environment
  • Counseling, health education and training programs using adult learning approach

Occupational Injury Management

The Occupational Injury Management (formerly Office of Workers' Compensation) is a value-added service of Emory HealthCare and Emory University, committed to the pursuit of a quality work environment free from recognized health, safety and environmental risks in compliance with applicable regulations. We believe that a healthy, productive work force and safe working environment are critical to Emory's mission of excellence.

Our mission is to provide direct access to comprehensive, cost-effective quality care for employees with occupational injuries or illnesses. Evaluation, treatment and case management of workplace injuries are delivered by occupational health experts committed to optimizing an injured employee's recovery.

Services include:

  • Recordkeeping in accordance with the Standards of Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing, the Occupational Health & Safety Administration(OSHA), and applicable state and federal laws;
  • Clinical care; including assessment; diagnosis; management; and documentation of occupational illness and injury, including post-exposure assessment and management of biological and chemical exposures;
  • Clinical case management of occupational illnesses and injuries;
  • Expertise and education in the identification, monitoring and reduction of health hazards in the workplace (e.g. ergonomics);
  • Health hazard assessment and surveillance of employee populations, workplaces and community groups;
  • Analysis of illness and injury episodes and trends;
  • Collaboration with Safety to promote and protect employee health and safety;
  • Compliance with laws, regulations and standards governing health and safety for employees and the environment;
