Faculty/Staff Accommodation Process
The Interactive Accommodation Process (IAP) sets in motion the official request for a workplace accommodation from the employee. Accommodation needs are thoroughly discussed and a plan of action is mapped out.
Accommodation Process
- Each faculty/staff must meet the eligibility criteria and complete the registration process in its entirety:
- Self-disclose medical condition to the Office of Disability Services (ODS) — contact ODS at (404) 727-9877 [voice] or (404) 712-2049 [TDD].
- Indicate accommodation need to ODS (usually at this point, you need to meet with a member of the ODS staff by visiting the ODS office).
- Submit appropriate and completed documentation criteria to ODS.
- Engage in Interactive Accommodation Process (IAP) with ODS staff.
Note: In some cases, contact with other key people and resources, respective units and/or departments, including the attending health professional, the immediate supervisor, and other administrative leadership may be needed to develop a successful workplace accommodation agreement. (Should your situation require this level of engagement, you will be advised in advance.)
Please Note:
- A request for a workplace accommodation is not necessarily automatically granted.
- Sometimes the process will require negotiation with an array of decision makers.
- Be advised that the success of the accommodation process depends significantly on how reasonable the accommodation request is and whether or not the implementation of the request can be executed.
